WHY DID ASGARD BURN:

Viking Folktales and Norse Mythology of Endless Fire?

Once upon a time (or was this really history), there was suppose to be a beautiful city, known as the Garden of the gods. As best as we can figure, it was called something like OusGaRahDT (pronounced? ouce-ger-awed) or in more modern spelling Osgard or Asgard. And, people from all over Scandia used to go there to celebrate the Pagan Festivals, with lots of drinking and womanizing--in the party hardy spirit. (Gee, that sounds like some college resorts, today, huh?)

Anyway, some say it is a vision of the end of the world, others think that it may have actually happened, but some where in this process, this beautiful Garden (Eden?) was burned to the ground. And, with that, all the so called gods there, lost their power and influence. Along with that, its inhabitants were disbursed abroad, as they could no longer live there.

FICKLED FICTION - or Historical Record?

And unfortunately, most myths do incorporate a certain amount of TRUTH in them. But, the problem is unravelling what is real, from what is just hot air! So, is there, indeed, any TRUTH to this Viking Folktale?

Even more intriguing, some view this Norse Mythology as a vision of the End of the World. That Our modern world is a kind of Asgard, or Garden. And that one day, it will all be burned to the gound! Now, is that Truth? Well, we don't have a Time Machine, so we can't go and check. But, there is something, we can check on!

IVAR VIDFADMI ERA

IDOLOCLASTIC CALL - the Purge of Pagan Idols

Now, along with his Judeo-Christian (Messianic) beliefs, Ivar seems to have sparked something of a REVIVAL in his time. And, with that REVIVAL came a Call to purge his lands of Idols and Idolaters. And, some have suggested, that like the Romans, in order to make his lands safe, he had to attack and subdue all the surrounding lands. (Or, was that just simple greed?)

OKAY, so what did the FIRE have to do with all of this???

Ah, yes, back to our story. Norse mythology holds that the world is locked in a battle between good and evil. But, who can tell the guys in the white hats, from those wearing black? Typically, the Norse gods are held as good, while Loki, the Gray Wolf, is held as the demon of evil. (But, then, the Norse gods aren't so pure and holy, either!)

And, even more curious, the emblem that Ivar used as his sign was that of the GRAY WOLF, supposedly from the Tribe of Benjamin (Genesis 49:27)--out of respect for King Saul, one of the ruling Dynasties of Israel. So, was Ivar the evil Gray Wolf of the Asgard story? (And, was he really so evil?)

OKAY, but what about the FIRE? Are you avoiding this issue?

THE HOLY GahTSK FIRE:

If you shall hear report of one of the cities, which the Lord your God has given you to dwell there, saying: Certain men, the children of Blial [the Devil], are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city [from God], by saying: Let us go go and serve other gods, which you have not known; Then you shall ***inquire***, make search, and ask diligently; And, bheold, it it be true and the thing certain, that such an abomination is done among you--Then you shall smite the inhabitants of that city with the sword, destroying it utterly,m and all this therein is, with the edge of th sword. And you shall gather all the spoils of it into the midst of its streeets, and YOU SHALL BURN WITH FIRE THAT CITY AND ALL THE SPOILS THEREOF--[even] EVERY WHIT, for the Lord your God: And it shall be a heap for ever; It shall not be built again. And there shall cleave nothing of their cursed things to your hand; That the Lord may turn from the fiercness of HIS anger, and show you mercy, and have comopassion on you, and multiply [prosper] you. as HE has sworn to our fore-fathers! (Deuteronomy 13:12-17)

Thus, Ivar seems to have had Scriptural justification for burning Asgard to the ground! And, more than likely, he also burned other such cities, in his campaigns and conquests. (For details on this Scriptural Purge of Idols, see IDOLOCLASTIC CALL.)

(And later, this Passage became the foundation for the INQUISTION in Feudal Europe, and its original intent of rooting out idolatry--though in later days, it tended to turn to attacking any dissident, and especially Jews!)

PROPHECY OF FUTURE FIRE: (Hell?)

It is written in the Holy Scriptures:

And the Devil [Satan] that deceived them WAS CAST INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE and [burning] brimstone, where the Beast and the False Prophet are, and they shall be tormented day and night, for ever, and ever! (Revelations 20:10)

Therefore, the burning of idolaters (and their cities) significies the coming DAY OF JUDGMENT, where the evil one, the Devil, will be destroyed, and cast into HELL!

However, this Day is not jost the doom of the Devil (or the end of the Norse gods), for the Word of God also warns us:

Then shall HE [Messiah or Christ] say unto them on the left hand: Depart from me, you accursed, INTO EVERLASTING FIRE (Hell), prepared for the Devil, and his angels [followers]! (Matthew 25:41)

Thus, all those who follow the Devil (and his allies, the Norse gods), will come to perish in that GREAT FUTURE FIRE!!!

So, will you be among them?

ESCAPING THE GREAT FUTURE FIRE:

For all have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God [perfection HE intended]! (Romans 3:23)

Thus, all humans are trapped in sin, and by it, to slavery to serving the Devil! So, whether you like it or not, you are bound in spiritual chains, and being carried off to that Great Future Fire!

However, there is a remedy (if you are willing to take it), for it is also written:

...without the shedding of blood, there is no remission [cure] for sin. (Hebrews 9:22)

Thus, with an appropriate animal blood sacrifice, there could be an atonement for sin. (And this is what the Jews did with the Temple for centuries.) But, that was only temporary--and required an annual sacrifice.

Consequently, someone had to die, and shed their blood, to atone or pay for YOUR sins! Now, who would do that? (And what would you have to give them?)

Well, you don't have to! For, God took care of it, even as it is written:

But God commends [demonstrates] HIS Love, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died [on the Cross] for us! (Romans 5:8)

And to grasp the whole program that HE intended in doing that, consider:

For God so Loved the World [Mankind], that HE gave [sacrificed] HIS only begotton Son [Y'shua or Jesus], that whosoever Believers in HIM should not perish [in Hell's Fire], but have everlasting Life [in Heaven, with God]! (John 3:16)

Now, this is the Gospel or Good News: that Christ died on the Cross to pay for YOUR sins. Yes, HE shed his own precious blood, dying in YOUR place--as your own death, by proxy! Thus, through Belief in HIM, you are saved from the coming Great Future Fire! But, only if you will turn to HIM!

IT'S YOUR CHOICE (Don't blow it!)

...Choose ye [you] this day, whom ye shall serve... (Joshua 24:15).

OKAY! How do I choose to follow God?

Actually it is very simple. Just say the following prayer out loud (so God will know that you agree to it). It forms a kind of Covenant or Mediavel Social Contract between you and God. You are to serve HIM and HE is to take you to Heaven in your afterlife. So, just repeat this, aloud:

• Father God, I admit my sin to YOU, that I have done evil and wicked things in your sight (and deserve punishment in Hell FIRE).
• But, I humble myself, and plead with you to be merciful to me and forgive me of my sins, because of YOUR Son (Y'Shua or Jesus), who shed His Blood on the Cross to pay for my sins, as my death by proxy.
• Now, I renounce the Devil (and the Norse gods) and all of that wickedness; And in the NAME OF Y'Shua (Jesus), I command all the forces of evil to be gone from my life, now and forever!
• Instead, Heavenly Father, send YOUR Precious Holy Ghost into my heart and life: leading me, teaching me, and protecting me (and Manifesting YOUR Presence and Power in my life).
