The Eighth Commandment and Related Scriptures:

SPECIFIC PROVISIONS AGAINST STEALING

.C SPECIFIC PROVISIONS AGAINST STEALING:

..1 LIABILITY:
No stealing from others by accidents or negligence causing injuries--for we are our brother's keeper and are required to look out for our fellow man! Generally, if death occurs as a result of the accident, then treat as Manslaughter--see LAW-6.A.2.f ACCIDENTAL DEATH under Murder. If the victim survives the accident, then the person held responsible for the accident shall pay the victim for all lost wages and work, as well as all medical expenses to bring the victim back to as normal a health as is possible--full recovery (Exodus 21:19). And, in other situations:

• ...a for injury in a fight, competition, or contest (Exodus 21:18-19).
• ...b for injury during an excavation or construction (Exodus 21:33-34).
• ...c for injury due to negligent animal control (Exodus 21:35-36, 22:5).
• ...d for injury of a slave or servant (Exodus 21:20-21, 26-27). See also Provisions for Slavery, below.
• ...e for damages or injury of a fire (Exodus 22:6).
• ...f for embezzlement or purloining--mismanagement of funds (Exodus 22:7; John 12:6; Acts 5:1-3, Titus 2:9-10).
• ...g for damage or destruction of borrowed or rented equipment or property (Exodus 22:14-15).

..2 CONTRACTS (and Covenants):
No stealing by not preforming or providing as promised:

• ...a A formal AGREEMENT must be reached between the parties to establish a binding contract, with signatures or pledges before witnesses to validate it (Genesis 23:3-20; I Samuel 18:1-4; I Kings 5:8-12).
1. A Father may void his daughter's pledge (or the contracts of his minor children). (Numbers 30:3-5)
2. A Husband may void his wife's pledges (Numbers 30:6-8, 13-14).

• ...b MONEY, DOWN PAYMENT, compensation,
  or some exchange of value is needed to make the commercial contract valid (Genesis 21:27; I Samuel 18:3-4).
1. COLATERAL
   may be put up, or a co-signer provided, to insure the pay back (or time payments) of loans granted by the contract (Deuteronomy 24:10-11, 17; Proverbs 22:26-27)--see also Credit, below.
2. ERNEST MONEY
   may be advanced (or required) as a security to insure preformance in contracts of great value, and especially in the exchange of Real Estate (Genesis 21:26-30)--see also Real Estate, below.

• ...c WITNESSES
  are required in transactions of great value, especially if involving Real Estate (Ruth 4:9-11).
• ...d Holy OATHS (vows)
  to make commercial contracts binding (by involving God) are severly limited (Matthew 5:33-37), thus limitation on Sacred Covenants--see also Covenants.
• ...e BREACH OF CONTRACT:
  failure to perform or provide as specified by the contract may have serious consequences (Exodus 21:10-11; Numbers 30:2; Deuteronomy 23:21; Galatians 3:15). Moreover, each contract should have provisions clearly set forth as to what the penalties for defaulting are.

..3 LABOR RELATIONS:
No stealing from workers nor from employers, for we are all under God's Design of Servanthood (and the CURSE of work struggles), and need to be the worker or servant of someone (Genesis 3:17-19; Proverbs 10:4, 12:24, 13:11, 14:23, 21:25). But, the Holy Scriptures warn us from pursuing vain labors (Ecclesiastes 4:8, 5:15-17, 9:10; Isaiah 55:2; Habakkuk 2:12-13). Rather, we are admonished to work for the HARVEST of God, and our proper rewards in Heaven (Proverbs 12:11, 13:11; John 6:27). Moreover, the blessings of God will fall upon those who labor, thusly (Genesis 1:28, 2:15; Deuteronomy 30:9; Psalms 128:2; Proverbs 17:2, 22:29; Ecclesiastes 5:12). Furthermore, the coming Era of Rest, from robotics, in the Future, will give us of the Faith more time to pursue these more noble tasks! But, until then...

• ...a EMPLOYER PROVISIONS:
1. Workers admonished to give good service and diligent labor to their bosses (Psalms 123:9; Proverbs 25:13, 27:18; Matthew 24:45-47).
2. Workers enjoined to respect their employers, giving them proper honor and custom (Romans 6:16, 13:7; Colossians 3:22-25; Hebrews 13:17).
3. Workers need to have good attendance and daily work is to be pursued--excluding Holidays for the Lord (Exodus 23:12, 34:21; Leviticus 23:7; Deuteronomy 5:13; Psalms 104:23).

• ...b WORKER PROVISIONS:
1. CRAFT GUILDS and TRADE UNIONS
   used to protect the interests of workers--and to supervise the skills and services of their own members (Genesis 4:2, 20-22, 46:31-34; Acts 19:25).
2. HOLIDAYS
   are to be given off as work free days, along with other vacation days and breaks (so as to support the families of workers)--see under Holy Days the of 4th Commandment.
3. SALARIES and PAY
   are to be given workers promptly--without delay or alteration (Genesis 31:7; Leviticus 19:13; Deuteronomy 24:14-15; James 5:4). And, workers are to be paid fairly and justly, giving them a living wage (Jeremiah 22:13; Malachi 3:5; Matthew 10:10; Luke 10:7; Colossians 4:1; I Timothy 5:18)--support for a minimum wage. Moreover, laborers should not be expected to work without pay or just compensation for their services (1 Corinthians 9:7-11).
4. RETAINER
   is to be paid to idle workers, by their company or Trade Union--then given unemployment benefits by the government for long term unemplyment--in order to sustain the worker and his family (Matthew 20:1-15), thus support in the Scriptures for workfare and public works projects.
5. HONEYMOON LEAVE
   is to be granted to workers who are newly weds, especially if this is their first marriage (Deuteronomy 24:5)--so that the new family may thus be supported.
6. MATURNITY LEAVE
   is to be given to women workers and their husbands for the birth of children (Leviticus 12:2, 4-5)--that the growth of families be supported.
7. MENSTRAL LEAVE
   is to be allowed for female workers, to help reduce the effects of hysteria and PMS in the workplace--see Menstral Taboo under Public Health and Sanitation (and support for sick leave).

• ...c VAGRANCY PROVISIONS:
  No stealing from society by refusing to work, for all able bodied men (and women) are required to pursue some kind of gainful employment or remunerating labor (self-support), so as not to be an unnecessary burden for the public to support (Proverbs 12:11, 28:19; Ephesians 4:28; I Thessalonians 4:11-12; II Thessalonians 3:10-12; I Timothy 5:8). And, while normally the burden of family support and provision is upon the man, the woman was also designated by God as man's helper and assistant in his labors (Genesis 2:18; Proverbs 31:10-12) and in times of persecution, illnesss, or even conquest, that burden may shift to her as the main provider (Exodus 1:15-16; Revelations 12:10).
• ...d HIRING PROVISIONS:
  In the interest of perserving the Patriarchial structure that God has ordained, and in giving economic support for the Family (Genesis 2:18, 3:16; Esther 1:22; Ephesians 5:22-24; Colossians 3:18; I Peter 3:1), the agencies, offices, and organizations of Our Realm are required to hire FATHERS FIRST before other applicants can be considered. And for the sake of Our Society and Family, we encourage all other employers to do so, as well.

..4 CREDIT:
No stealing from others through the use of debt or loans that are faulty! See also, contracts, above.

• ...a USURY:
  No exorbitant interest (or loan sharking) is chargable, for this is unjustly oppressive of the poor (Exodus 22:25-27; Leviticus 25:35-37; Deuteronomy 23:19; Psalms 15:5; Proverbs 28:8). Moreover, this is held to be a Capital Crime by the Holy Scriptures (Proverbs 22:7; Ezekiel 18:12-13), probably because of the slavery associated with it, below.
• ...b BANKRUPTCY:
  the failure to pay back the debt that was owed often led to enslavement or imprisonment in Bible Times, in order to raise what funds that could be had to pay back the debt (Exodus 22:3; Proverbs 22:7; Matthew 18:25, 30). However, the Lord taught us to be merciful and provide a debt release for those who have no way to pay back what they owe (Matthew 18:23-35).

..5 INHERITANCE:
No stealing from a dead man's heirs or estate! Unfortunately, because of the large sums of money involved, this tends to be one of the favorite criminal activities of organized crime--BEWARE! (And protect your elderly.) See also, LAW-6.A.2.o.2 INHERITANCE PLUNDERING under Armed Robbery in Murder.

• ...a Good fathers are admonished by the Holy Scriptures to lay up a good inheritance for their children (Proverbs 13:22). (/LI>

• ...b WILL AND FINAL TESTAMENT:
  The wishes of a dying man are to be respected, and his assets are to be distributed to his heirs as he directs in his formal written Will or Final Testament before witnesses--with no need to come before the Realm Courts (without the need for Court Costs or taxes), except the distribution be challenged by one of the heirs (Genesis 49:1-3; I Kings 2:1-10; John 19:25-27).
• ...c PROBATE:
  Lacking a Will (or if the Will be challenged), then the deceased's estate is to be brought before the Courts of Our Realm and distributed to the heirs as follows--with the income thereof being taxed or tithed as regular income (and as Court Costs).
1. If there are sons of the deceased, they will inherit first, with each son receiving an equal portion of the deceased's assets--the firstborn son receiving a double portion, as well as the care of their mother (Genesis 15:3-4, 24:36, 25:5; Deuteronomy 21:17).
2. If there are no sons, but the deceased had daughters, then they may inherit the deceased's assets, and according to the formula for sons (above), PROVIDED that they are married, so that they will basically be holding the assets of the deceased's estate for his grandchildren (Numbers 27:8-11, 36:6)--see also Heiresses, below.
3. If there are no children, then his wife (if she is still fertile), is to marry the next nearest relative of her husband's that is willing to raise up descendants for his brother--the assets of the estate thus being held in trust by the mother for his grandchildren, as in Levirate Marriage (Genesis 38:8; Deuteronomy 25:5-10; Ruth 4:1-10).
4. If there is a wife, then her ability to inherit (as well as that of her children) is based upon her Marrital State (unless specified differently in the Will):
• ....a BONDSWOMEN:
  or women of marriage by usage (and her children by him) normally do not inherit at all (Genesis 21:10; Judges 11:2; Galatians 4:30)--thus limiting Palimony. (However, if he have no other children, but by her, then they may petition the Courts to have his estated distributed to his natural children.)
• ....b CONCUBINES:
  or women of marriage by contract normally do not inherit, either--but her children by him are to be considered viable and legitimate heirs (Genesis 49:1-2; Galatians 4:7, 27-28, 31).
• ....c HONORABLE WIVES:
  or women of a formal wedding (or Pergamosun), not only have her children by him to inherit, but such wives are to be given a portion equal to that of his sons (or daughters, if they turn out to be heiresses) (Judges 1:14-15, Job 42:15).
• ....d DIVORCEES:
  women who have been divorced or who divorced their husband are NOT entitled to inheritance from him--neither are their children (unless specifically provided for in his Will) (Deuteronomy 24:1-4). (However, if such children are the only descendants that he has, then they may petition the Courts to distribute his assets to them as his natural children.)
• ....e MULTIPLE WIVES:
  If the desceased should have more than one wife (widower, divorced, etc.), then each wife (and her children by him) is entitled to inherit according to the above formula and specifications (Deuteronomy 21:15-17).

5. If there are no children, and no wife, then the next nearest kinsman (or nearest relative) is to inherit the deceased's assets (Numbers 27:10-11).
6. If a reasonable search turns up no near relatives, then the Realm may inherit the deceased's assets--for the property that we acquire is only held in trust by us from God's Realm and thus is to be returned to the Realm at such a death (Ezekiel 46:16-18).
• ....a REALM OFFICES
  are Realm property and may not be inherited, but are to be returned to the Realm upon the death of the office-holder (Ezekiel 46:17).
• ....b HONARY TITLES
  become the property of the nobleman and thus are inheritable--EXCEPT that the son(s) is to inherit a station or title of one step or degree below that of which his father was entitled to (Proverbs 27:24; Ezekiel 46:16)--thus eventually weeding out bad blood from Our Aristocracy.
• ....c HEIRESSES:
  if a nobleman should not have a son, then his daughter(s) may become an heiress and pass the title, two steps or degrees lower, on to his grandson(s)--PROVIDED that she chooses to marry within her father's Family (Clan), as in a levirate marriage (Exodus 36:1-9).

• ...d ADOPTED CHILDREN:
  All properly adopted children are to be figured into the inheritance division as legitimate heirs, according to the above formula (Genesis 15:2-3). However, any currently disowned child is to be excluded from inheritance (Genesis 21:9-10).
• ...e MINOR CHILDREN:
  All heirs that are minor children (below the age of 20) are not allowed to inherit until they are of age (25)--their portion being placed under administrative trust until that maturity age (Galatians 4:1).
• ...f EXCLUSIONS:
  If a Will should change or abridge any of the above provisions, then it MUST also give good reason or justification for why the proper division is not followed--or the aggreived heir may challenge it and bring it before the Realm Courts for correct distribution (Genesis 49:3-4; I Chronicles 5:1).
1. The Holy Scriptures observe Patrilineal descent for heirs, and so should the Law and Courts of Our Realm (Genesis 5:1-32; I Chronicles 1:1-54).
2. PRIMOGENITURE, where the eldest son inherits all (to the excluding of the other sons), is not to be found in the Holy Scriptures, and so should not be practiced by Our Law nor by Our Courts!
