7.D.3 Tolerands - DANCE AND RYTHMIC MOVEMENT

One of the more controversial issues of the Tolerands is that of Dance. The Modern Pharisees would have us regulate dance into non-existence. But, the Modern Saducees would lead us into lasciviousness, even in the Congregation. So, clearly we need some good guidance from the Holy Scriptures, here!
...a TOLERATED:

  1. SACRED DANCE (Worship Dance):
    for worship and rejoicing before the Lord (Exodus 15:20; Judges 21:19-21; II Samuel 6:13-15; Psalms 149:3, 150:4; Luke 7:31-35).

  2. SECULAR CELEBRATIONS:
    for triumphs, military victories, or other public celibrations (Exodus 15:20-21; I Samuel 18:6-7; Psalms 30:11; Luke 15:25-26).

  3. SOCIAL OCCASSION:
    for weddings, socializing, get togethers, and even courtship (Jeremiah 31:13; Luke 15:25-26).

  4. EROTIC DANCE:
    while certainly restricted from the general public (to avoid Lasciviousness)--AND ESPECIALLY IN THE CONGREGATION, there seem valid occassions to allow a little indescent exposure (II Samuel 6:14-15, 21; Jeremiah 31:13; Matthew 14:6) and even some private erotic dancing--see Erotica in Tolerands.

...b NOT ALLOWED:

  1. IDOLATROUS:
    if it is assocaited with some false religion, pagan worship, or celebration of idols--or especially Cultic Harlotry (Exodus 32:19). See also IDOLATRY.

  2. PERVERTED:
    if it is associated with some taboo or perversion that is prohibited by God's Law--see GENERAL ADULTERY.

  3. *** WARNING ***
    moreover, we are sternly warned to beware of the seductive power of erotic dance and the power of the dancer to manipulate the viewer into doing wrong or evil (Matthew 14:6-10; Mark 6:22-26).
