On Thursday, May 31st at 7 PM Waucoma Bookstore will be hosting Jane Kirkpatrick at The Hood River Library Reading Room for a reading and book-signing. Jane will be reading from her most recent book, A Tendering in the Storm - her second book in the Change and Cherish Historical Series. This new book based on true events, continues the story of Emma from the book A Clearing in the Wild. The novel is set against the backdrop of Willapa Bay of the Washington Territory coast from 1856-1861 where Emma and her husband early on are members of the Missouri Bethelites, a repressive German religious community. Difficulties arise when Emma and her husband, formerly a prominent leader, decide to separate themselves from that world to carve out their own independent existence. Tragedy strikes, alone and pregnant, emma's decision to live apart may cost her family everything that she holds most dear. It is an emotionally charged novel, based on historical facts of the time. Jane Kirkpatrick writes about historical women, and spends many hours researching and interviewing descendants, incorporating authentic stories into her novels. She brings to life the beauty and the severity of pioneer living. Jane Kirkpatrick has written twelve historical novels and two works of non-fiction. an international speaker, she lives on a "rattlesnake and rock" ranch along the lower John Day River.
